I have been waiting to attend New York Fashion Week since I moved to the city. Finally this year it happened, thanks to my roommate Emily. She works in fashion and was somehow able to get us (her, my other roommate Marisa and I) on the list for 2 shows, Michael Costello and Philipp Plein.
I know all fashion shows are different and the designers are always trying to go bigger and better than their last show and/or their peers, but I had no idea what to expect. Both shows were above and beyond my expectations. Beautiful clothes and models. Great parties. An open bar. What more could we ask for?!
Michale Costello
The Michael Costello show was a presentation at the Robert Miller Gallery in Chelsea. It was a collection of beautiful gowns and dresses, in different shades of white, pink and nude.

I felt so bad for the models standing for hours in heels, looking like they were starving. However, they are good at their job, because every time we took a picture of them, they turned it on and worked it for the camera. The gallery was packed and we saw Michael Costello himself, as well as a couple of other Project Runway designers. We loved the line and had the best time mingling with the fashion world for a night.

Philipp Plein
We knew going into the Philipp Plein show it would be a runway show vs a presentation, but we had no idea the scale. This show was at the Hammerstein Ballroom. We were seated up in the mezzanine so it was not the greatest view to see the actual clothes, but we had a great view for the show itself. The only word I can use to describe this night as a whole was insane.
It started with a burlesque show with Dita Von Teese. Then, Future, the rapper, performed as the women and men walked the runway for the actual fashion show part of the night. Finally, Teyana Taylor closed the show with a crazy dance performance. After the runway show ended, they turned the Hammerstein Ballroom into a club with an open bar. It was amazing. There was a DJ playing and they opened the runway to people in the crowd to come up on stage. The DJ played for an hour or so, which led to the closing event…a performance by Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage.
The whole night was so crazy and I still can’t believe was lucky enough to be a part of it. Even the reviews in the paper talked about what a scene it was. It was a real New York moment, and hopefully something I will have an opportunity to experience again at some point in the future!
